About the Center for Excellence in Peer Education

The Center for Excellence in Peer Education (CEPE) was established in August 2011 and is located in the Lightsey Center Basement, Suites B66 and B53.

Mission Statement

CEPE is the hub for College of Charleston students serving in paraprofessional positions who offer curricular and co-curricular assistance to their peers.

The mission of the CEPE is to recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate students serving in select positions of peer education within the Office for the Academic Experience (AEX), to provide initial mentor training to peer educators from various units within the College, and to serve as a resource to supervisors of College of Charleston peer educators.

Peer Educator Outcomes:

  • The peer educator will demonstrate professionalism and ethics in their roles, responsibilities, and decision-making.
  • The peer educator will demonstrate the ability to serve as a connecting link to College of Charleston campus resources and make effective referrals, when appropriate.
  • The peer educator will develop an understanding and application of key traits of a peer educator.

The Center for Excellence in Peer Education trains approximately 200 students annually to be peer educators, and serves all College of Charleston students. Peer educators are trained to assist students in becoming successful academically and socially at the College of Charleston.
